Amit Madhesiya

Amit Madheshiya was born in 1982 in Mau, India and is now a documentary photographer based in Mumbai. Amit has been pursuing projects documenting the unique visual culture of the country. These series include the exploration of the prohibited practise of placing religious iconography on the streets, a result of the Tasveer Ghar Popular Art Fellowship 2008- 09, and as the documentation of the traveling tent cinemas across rural Maharashtra, supported by a the India Foundation for the Arts. Recently, Amit won the TOTO award for Emerging Photographers in India for 2009. He is also a freelance photographer and writer for Himal Southasian Magazine.
